You Can Visit This Incredible Farm Animal Sanctuary

What if I told you at Tamerlaine Sanctuary you can hug Cashew and Oats, two dairy cows, along with their 250 friends. This 336-acre sanctuary for abused, neglected, and abandoned farm animals who come from awful situations to live their best life is an amazing place and was one of our favorite episodes to record.

Segment 1
Peter Nussbaum, one of the founders of Tamerlaine Sanctuary along with his wife Gabrielle Stubbert, takes us through the history of the sanctuary and how it started. Peter's wife wanted to rescue a couple of roosters, Peter agreed, he fell in love with them, and they quickly became part of the family. After they had rescued about 200 animals on their 40 acre farm, they eventually  purchased a neighboring vineyard and transformed it into what it is today.

Today in New Jersey History: On January 10, 1946 the US Army successfully reflected radar signals off of the moon. The experiment, called Project Diana, was held at Camp Evans, a part of Fort Monmouth, in Wall, NJ.

Segment 2
Peter discusses their "why" and their mission. A goal of theirs is to introduce people to animals that are generally thought of as only sources of food. Peter and Gabrielle are vegans, but their goal is to not make themselves seem better than anyone, but to give a different perspective to their visitors. There are tons of opportunities for people to volunteer or sponsor animals.

New Jersey Fun Fact: The first nearly complete dinosaur skeleton discovered virtually intact anywhere in the world was unearthed in Haddonfield, NJ in 1858.

Segment 3
We discuss the importance of the community that supports Tamerlaine. Peter also discusses the importance of maintaining positive relationships with local farmers and others involved in animal agriculture. They have great relationships and they work together to build community and assist if any animal needs help. Tamerlaine also produces their own award-winning hot sauces which are available for purchase and all proceeds go back to supporting the sanctuary. If you have the opportunity to visit and take a tour, it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and you NEED to take advantage of it.
